Outside of the gates of the Sluut, as was customary during major proclamations and declarations of war, a man in fine red and white robes and a feathered cap stepped up to a podium and unfurled a written copy of an ultimatum that was at this very moment being sent across the southern frontier and into Heel. Clearing his throat a bit, he began to summarise to the gathered crowd:
'By the grace of the Hauhkuno, it has been hereby ordered that should the Republic of Heel refuse to sign the Treaty of Morthal or abide by its rulings as part of the Raikh, it is to be expelled stripped of all its privileges that it has thus far enjoyed. Their ships are to no longer be allowed to sail under our flags nor be protected by our fleets, their peoples are to no longer be allowed entry into the Raikh or its dependencies, and their Land is to no longer be protected from the aggressions of the outlanders by our armies.
These things are to come to pass unless they bring themselves into compliance with the will of the Hauhkuno, their rightful and liege and god, within a fortnight of this announcement. Until that fortnight is over, the border is to remain open with them.
May Hauhkunoleiks Garaihtsinassus account in all balance. Sa Hauhkuno wardjan.'
Hanging the full ultimatum from the podium, the crier went back into the Sluut with the couple of guards that had come with him.
Location: Thai Fraujinassusen, the Southern Markaland of the Raikh
Time: Midday
Having been alerted ahead of time and receiving orders, a full Wardjanhriggs set about the work of securing the border. Whilst the fortifications had never been allowed to rot or become too outdated, nor was the border ever truly unguarded, it had been many years since the posts had been fully staffed and the bunkers prepared for a proper invasion.
Now, for the first time in over a hundred years, thousands of men were being brought to the border and ordered to secure it. The force present now being four times larger than the one that had been dispatched during the civil war to try and stop the escape of rebel forces. While the border remained open, it was not unguarded and any coming into the Raikh were subjected to rather rigorous questioning and searches. A taste of what was to come.
