I saw the blast; the platoon and I were patrolling the pier to make sure there would not be an event like this. We heard the band go by and I turned to watch. Mary, I am frankly glad those trains were stuck in the valley, and you stayed in Millerstown. What I saw, What I heard, that is not something you needed to see. A blaze took up from the Garrison, it hit the powder. It sent the armory's roof into the night sky, there was chaos. Price and I ran up to see what was going on, and the shooting broke out. Some Monarchists were shooting down on us from a tavern, we fired back, but the bricks ate up the lead. We had to storm the place, they barricaded it well. A corporal took a flaming board and set their sandbags alight. He shouted that he wanted to smoke them out. He was a brave man, far braver than most of us there. I do not know what your father's plan is, I know he still respects the Crown, but please, keep him from doing something rash. Colonel Sanderson says we're returning home in a couple days, we are ordered to maintain the pass, come hell or high water. Until then, we are ordered to maintain Martial Law, it looks like Fairbairn will not step down until the issue is settled, Haliday agreed to the proposal.
Sgt. Killorn, Lt. Price and I are staying safe the best we can, Killorn is excited to "finish the job" against the Crown, I cannot agree with the sentiment, but here we are. A war to ensure our liberation, I hope it sheds less blood than the war to achieve liberation.
Pray for us Mary, Pray for us all.
Your husband-to-be,
Randall
