Long troubled by expiditionary raids and minor assults on the western border, The Tern of Grestovin has organized an offensive action against the Harkin Alliance, a collection of bandit and raider groups comprised from local tribes.
The western border towns begin calling up bonds and reviewing fortifications ong the mountain line. The local Tern authorizes a 3 year bond to volunteer soldiers.
Hyskarls from Grestovin make exploration strikes into Harkin controlled territory engaging in minor skirmishes along the mountain ranges.

After some initial skirmishing between they hyskarl forward raiding parties and the Harkin brigands, Bodyr forces arrived and began to militerizs the border zones, digging extensive trenchworks and mountain earth forts. Heavy fighting began in the mountains not long after. Harkin forces utilized similar tactics to those of noreska but augmented by things learned from criminals, outcasts, and defectors from other continental powers. It was not long until the spound of gunfire became common in the region.
In addition to this, disturbing reports about some of the Harkin officers began to trickle in. These reports caused a noticible change in the attitudes of the noreskan leadership and support for the offensive began to increase rapidly.
Stories from travelers spoke of excessive and brutal violence and grotesque displays of mutilated corpses, stories of giants and monsters lurking in the mountains with the strength of 20 men and a hunger for human flesh. These tales, exagerated though they surly were, began to cause great concern in the Noreskan leadership.

Fighting along the Westerlies was not greatly impacted by the earthquake that shook the region. However both Noreskan and Harkin troops began to take note of Sadalen scouts abd observers.
These Sadalen forces were mostly ignored as a waste of ammunition for both sides. During their observations of the conflict they witnessed how and why the Noreskan military was able to solidify the territiry they now control. Noreskan Bondyr forces were able to construct fortifications with surprising speed, one scout even suggested that one night after his watch ended there was no fort, and by morning one stood upon the hill as if it had always been there. Trench lines, make shift bunkers, and supply points were becoming more and more common all along the noreskan border.
Another report of note stated that the combat prowess of the Hyskarls cpuld not be understated. Though relativly few in number they were reported as being able to echange fire with Harkin forces 8 to 1 and still manage to successfully rout the Harkin troops. Their use of terrain, ambush tactics and coordinated strikes from multiple divisions often sent Harkin troops into a rout.
The only exception to this rule was the Harkin elite divisions. Rarely sighted by the scouts from Sadalen, these monsterously large and intimidating soldiers were more than a match for even a veteran group of Hyskarls. They practically shrugged off multiple gunshot wounds, fired their own weapons with incredible precision, and were able to match 4 or 5 trained soldiers in hand to hand fighting. It was these soldiers and their officers that seemed to command the Harkin forces. Though one report about a Harkin officer, one of these super men, randomly exicuting 1/3 of his soldiers to "keep from getting too bored" was surly an exaggeration.
