The Simple Solution
Speaker of the House: 'The Honourable Lady from Wedding wishes to speak.'
Winifred af Wedding, on behalf of Hildimer: 'My lords, I am honoured to stand amongst your rank at present. With regards to the current matter, I feel that a most direct approach should be employed to resolve it, as the two powers in question grow more intractable by the hour. It is for this reason, I ask you to cast your minds back and remember the allowances provided in the Nationality & Immigration Act of 7613, which at present still holds effect, and consider the expedience which it offers. That is to say, I would put forward that should we wish to avoid any inconvenience at present or future to ourselves and our good business, that we should grant those indigent and stateless the status of Protected Person, so as to allow them freedom to travel.'
Murmurs went through the benches, as the oddity sat back down. So far, they had been discussing possible diplomatic solutions to the issue, but now an option that avoided dealing with both parties entirely had been presented. Standing from one of the rear benches, a hand was raised.
Speaker of the House: 'The Right Honourable Member from Utsals wishes to speak.'
Karol Grontünþus af Utsals: 'While we appreciate the Lady's proposal and see its practicality, we wish to ask how it is that she proposes to stop them from coming in our lands and making themselves a pest? Should such a status be afforded, their travel here would be legally assured.'
Standing up again, Winifred replied.
W.a.W.: 'It is my understanding, my Lord, that the Act only permits those with such a status the right to abode should they already maintain residence within the Raikh. Likewise, the right to travel is merely under our protection, which does in fact allow for them to be turned away by us. Finally, I would request that a copy of the Act be brought to the chamber, as I do not believe it grants an entitlement to work freely within our lands.'
K.G.: 'We are content at this time with the Lady's response.'
With that, both sat down once more. A copy of the Act was retrieved from the archives and it was examined by everyone wishing to do so, resulting in yet another hour of discussion. Finally, it was decided that the plan was suitable and would achieve the aims of the Raikh.
