Politics
Bukkora is a semi-presidential republic with a unicameral legislature. The executive consists of a President along with a Prime Minister and a cabinet, the latter two of which are responsible to the National Assembly. Only nominally is Bukkora a "democratic republic"; in practice, the system is electocratic, with the people unable to share in their elected government's power or influence their decision-making. The National Assembly consists of multiple overlapping, concentric bodies of government; people in each district vote for their local-level representatives, and they serve three different functions: as district leaders; as a provincial legislative assembly (made up of all local-level leaders); and as a national assembly (made up of all provincial assemblies). The National Assembly is then responsible for electing the President and Prime Minister. Assembly elections occur every 3 years; there is a 3-term limit for representatives.

Geography and Climate
Bukkora is dominated by a subarctic (Dfc) climate characterized by tundra and dense taiga forests, with long, cold winters contrasted with very short, warm summers. Average temperatures are below freezing for about half the year consecutively, with at most a few months warmer than 50°F (10°C); the coldest months, usually December and January, can reach −36°F (−38°C), and these extremes can even be surpassed in the interior regions, while the warmer summer months usually reach about 60°F-70°F (16°C-21°C). The soil is frozen for most of the year due to the extremely low temperatures. Most of the country, save for the mountainous southwestern interior, is fairly low-lying; there are a few inland lakes of varying sizes, which often freeze over during the winter.
Economy
Bukkora currently possesses a developing economy with an emerging industrial sector overshadowed by a predominantly aquacultural history. Whaling and fisheries are the country's strongest industries, accompanied by the more recent development of significant chemicals, timber and copper sectors; Bukkora is also a major exporter of furs and wool. Due to recent natural resource discoveries in the inland provinces, such as gold and lithium, Bukkora is currently seeing something of an economic boom, but wealth disparities remain high; most industry is concentrated in the capital and economic nexus of the country, Pyalchero, as well as to a lesser extent at resource-rich areas in the northwest and north. Neighboring Molyneaux is one of Bukkora's closest trade partners and a common source of imported plant-based goods due to the scarcity of arable land. Some economic metrics, such as unemployment and GDP per capita, are difficult to accurately measure due to the disparate population and underdeveloped communications infrastructure in the more sparsely populated rural areas.
Transport
Bukkoran transport infrastructure outside of urban centers is limited at best; roads and automobiles are minimal due to permafrost and the resulting cost of maintenance in a subarctic climate, and communications technology is largely unreliable in the harsh rural environment. That said, a rail network exists connecting Pyalchero to the other major cities on the southeastern and eastern coast, as well as connecting each of the provincial capitals.

Culture
Bukkoran folk religion is the primary belief system outside of the more predominantly agnostic urban centers. The cultural traditions are largely focused around the migration cycles of traditionally important or sacred animals, such as salmon, reindeer, and whales. The traditional Bukkoran calendar determines the dates on which these celebrations occur; there are twelve months kept on a lunar cycle every new moon, with an intercalary month added at the end of each year to resynchronize the lunar cycle with the sidereal year. Reverence for the natural world is considered critical to survival at the family and community level, since the brutal environment provides next to no alternatives to sustenance outside of the more modernized cities. Despite growing rates of agnosticism in the largest settlements, Bukkoran folk religion is vigorous and shows no sign of losing vitality in the coming decades.
Languages
Bukeo (бәккорә мал, bəkkorə mal), a Koreanic language, is the sole official and national language, spoken as a first language by the overwhelming majority of the population. Minority and regional languages do not receive official status but include Korean, Udihe, Manchu, Nanai, Russian, Hundisch, and Rodinan. A slight majority (~55%) is multilingual. Cyrillic is the official writing system; however, some Korean L1s may write using a modified form of Hangeul.
