January 29th, Acielon, Brionne, La Chapelle 64
Dux Aiden Lavelle had invited the princess to a café, which the girl had gladly accepted. Haygle was proving to be a good influence on the princess who was now more refined, though if she ever would lose her temper was questionable. She was happily chatting away with his granddaughter, while he sat somewhat contemplative. The last weeks had been rather active for the old men, as Haygle had sent all leader of their circle a telegram "The wolves are getting unrestful and cause trouble, the old boar is getting active and the stag is oblivious. We may soon have a grand hunt." This was the cause of it all, over the last year the King had managed to agitate plenty. The man had continued his consolidation of power replacing almost all ministers and continuesly weakening the nobility. A few traditionalists had changed camps to the progressive Arceneux or the absolutistic Troyes but the rest had remained indecisive only being held together by himself and young comte Bisaillon. Then Haygle had invited him to a ball with the princess as guest. And he had found that the Princess saw tradition in the same way as him. Though she did have some naive views, it was nothing that stood totally against the traditionalist cause. And so slowly the traditionalist has pledged themselves to her, and through the king had made efforts to uproot them, they still held influence in bureaucracy and military.
They had remained passive until the King in his latest ploy ignored all advice from the military and threw caution regarding the east into the wind. And thus the état major joined their group and it was decided that they had to move as soon as possible. Some words here and there had caused widespread fascists demonstrations and a bit of violence in the streets. For security the état major had ordered eastern and northern reserves towards the old cities. It was both lucky and a worrisome coincidence that the King was currently in the east intending to visit the areas affected by the flood. The last days the princess had always been outside of the palace, often with traditionalist nobles, citing that she felt 'caged' in the palace.
When a royal guard interreputed them during dinner to inform them that military had pulled up on the street, they had all looked out of the windows. And indeed several military cars had come to a stop and men started forming a perimeter around the establishment, a lieutenant entered and came to attention before the princess. "Your royal highness, we have information that a fascist group, some armed are moving towards this street. The état major has sent me to escort you to headquarters." At first the royal guard objected and insisted on the princess having to go to the palace. Until the princess herseld accepted the lieutenants 'offer'. Aiden decided to throw the poor men a bone and convinced them to use the princrsses car in order to make a decoy, deceiving the people that the princess had left the capital. Once that was done they all entered the cars and their own cohort moved towards headquarters.
The frontyard of headquarters was bustling with activity with men in the uniforms of North and East preparing defenses and preparing for their assigned operations. They quickly pased through the checkpoint and were excorted to the grand planning room. They passed through what to the laymen seemed almost like chaos, but was in actuality the combined effort of communications, operations and maneuver corps. Arriving in the planning room almost all member of the état major in attendance came to attention. Those missing were the Commanders of East and North, who were with them but coordinating their won districts. The Chief of Cartography, Chief of Engineering, Deputy Commander of Central and Commander of South were absent and sadly were not supporters of their cause. They would be necessary sacrifices. Suprisingly three civilians were in attendance too, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Security. The princess gave a slightly nervous smile towards the present people and told them, "I thank you all gentleman, you are doing this for the good of the nations. Now continue your work please." Almost immediatly the old boar, also known as Marshal of the Army bellowed orders and the entire room came quickly to live. Operation Swan was a success, now Operation Stag and all other operations could begin. They had a nation to take and a King to catch.
