Long ago, when the Proto-Caudians, the Mengolk, were exiled from West Thosel Cransconia and fled via the great sea, they had a schism. They had many schisms in fact, but only one was so dire as to separate them before landfall. This schism was founded by a former monk called Kavoch who believed the Angel Azrael had given him visions about the sins of all mankind and had told him that Elohim had given his chosen people a second chance and a second holy paradise on Earth. He took those people who he had made loyal to his visions and managed to commandeer one of the many boats the Mengolk were using to flee WTC.
Guided by little less then blind faith he sailed East, believing the Malakh Mot had told him the new promised land lay where the sun left the sea. The trip was arduous and many of the more competent sailing crew had been lost in the mutiny, but they managed and finally they saw land. Kavoch proclaimed the land New Judea and set about establishing his holy kingdom.
These Mengolks lived in isolation for many years, but the rest of their kin never forgot them and within a handful of generations, contact between the 2 sibling Colonies was established, although it remained tenuous and sparse as neither side cared too much for the other in any capacity. But still, occasional trade and attempts at diplomacy were made over the years as the fledgling nations slowly expanded. The Caudians grew far faster as their island was larger but though they prospered they had to deal with the natives of their land. Meanwhile the Mengolks on New Judea, who from now on are called Simmonites (After their second monarch, Mæðal Simmonsdottar, Kavoch's sister), had no natives at all to deal with, their islands seemingly missed by all explorers before them, which they saw as proof of Kavoch's visions and promises. This land was theirs for they had been guided to it before all others, and they took great pride in this distinction over their Caudian brethren.
By the time of their 7th monarch, one King Axon, they expanded to some islands to their north, which clearly once bore other humans but had since been deserted. They named these Greater Preston, Lesser Preston and Antipreston and for some time they were home to only the clergy, from which they derive their name, but by the time of the 9th monarch, Axon's daughter Angelas, secular inhabitants also resided there.
Since that time in the early 1800s, the islands of the Simmonites have been still isolated, ignored by most everyone, even their brethren in Caudia contacted them less and less and there was little need for trade between them and the Simmonites had begun to abandon Tholish as a trade tongue, sticking only to their own branch of Mengolk and Hebrew, although Aramaic also saw more use there then in Caudia. So it was that the events of the 1800s few over them with barely any effect, even by the early 1900s they only got a scant few messages from the Caudians merely bringing news of the war with Sadalen (Who the Simmonites had never heard of before) and the new patriarch Rybakar.
Things suddenly changed after the eruption of Vaalsberg, the farmlands on the Simmonite islands were hit hard by the poor summer and minor ashfall, the island was drenched in rains and most of their surplus crop from previous years quickly rotted. Famine gripped the islands and all seemed lost, if it weren't for one plucky fisher's son by the name Alexis ben Arye, who set to see on his father's boat and made contact with a Caudian patrol steamer. Thus was news brought to Caudia and whatever spare food could be was sent to the islands, luckily the population of the islands was not so large that Caudia couldn't provide for them both, especially given the vast tracts of farmland it had.
This event had caused a new found friendship between the two nations and while the Simmonites were still largely seperate, their new dependence on Caudian grain, as well as their lack of any defences against foreign invaders lead to a deal being struck between Patrirach Rybakar and Malka Elisheva bat Simmon the Second. The Simmonites would remain largely independent, but would rely on Caudia for its foreign relations and defence, in return Caudia would provide them with foods during famine or medicines during plague and would also be allowed to station ships in their ports, this final benefit was also granted to the Kingdoms of Kumarkatch and West Thosel Cransconia.
