My Son,
I am writing to you following the presentation of a piece of legislation which has passed into my view, pending approval. It seems your nation's recent legislation regarding “Latin styles of dress” was met with impassioned responses from the Divinian Senate. I will make clear: I am of the personal opinion that the views of your people in regards to our culture are baseless, nor have I much cared for the opinions of outsiders in that regard when it is not profitable to do so. The senate however, is beyond my control. I would prefer relations remain as they are between our people. This is not to be taken as an amiable opinion of you or your kind, but merely the preservation of Divinian security and prosperity.
Given however, the expense your nation too would incur should the Divinian Senate act upon her desire, it would be within your interest to amend The Act Regarding Immoral Practices and Familial Duties. I have attached a copy of the mentioned Divinian legislation, in hopes you are able to grasp the deleterious effect it will have upon us both.
Salve,
Ethlynn von Marcum

Convalium Acts
Senate Bill #6804
Introduced by: Aydin Polat, William von Marcum, Gaius Fischela, William Bigt, Abram Foreno
November 7, 1908
A Law So Enacted - For the further domestic security, economic and civil, of the Imperium Divinium.
Purpose: Given increased and open hostility by the state of Convalium (Sadalen) against the cultural fabric of the Latinate people, and the Imperium Divinium in particular, it is the duty of the Senate and People of Divinium to enact laws to ensure the open and free expression of cultures deemed acceptable within our borders, as well as ensure the continued and oft expressed personal liberties upon which our nation was founded. In conjunction with the wishes of the Sadaler Raikhsgamotjing, we will ensure the purity of our native culture.
Section I. Personae non gratae
All Sadalers with no established economic or political reason for placement will be barred entry into the Imperium Divinium. Official letters from their government or company dictating their political or company position in Divinium, the predicted location of their business, and the extent of their time to be spent in our borders is to be presented to appropriate Divinian Officials upon their arrival.
The right of entry refusal is conferred upon all border security at their discretion.
All persons holding citizenship in Convalium currently within our borders without the above mentioned documents will be given one month to acquire them and report to the Municipal government of their region. Any person not presenting these documents, or who have been denied approval, will be recognized as personae non gratae. Said persons will be held in contempt of the Senate and People of Divinium. Their property will be seized, and may face deportation or proscription.
Section II. Redirection of Goods and Services
In accordance with the Sadaler position on Divinian cultural goods, trade shall be redirected to other ports of call for the purpose of maintaining appropriate relations. Goods which are reflective of our culture include but are not limited to: oils and perfumes for grooming, textiles and embroidery, wine, literature, and art.
Persons in practices involving the production or trade of such goods and services must pay a tax of 30,000 Lire to HEMS government to conduct their business in Convalium, or in any of her constituent ports, or with any of her citizens, private or public.
