A Sly One
Lindsay Michell Fox was one of the most prominent businessmen in Narunar, having made his fortune in the retail and goods transport industries as a twenty year old. Thirty years later and he stood at the top of one of the largest corporate empires in the country, having expanded his business across the length and breadth of Narunar.
Now, Lindsay Fox stood, smoking a cigar, looking out over the cityscape below him, while an intern read through the morning's newspaper. He was barely paying attention, the poor kid was doing a terrible job. The last intern had been poached by the public relations department, and this one could barely hold a candle to his predecessor.
Mr Fox made a habit about reading the papers every day, especially the business and finance sections. These particular parts of the newspaper were goldmines for information, a seemingly insignificant increase in the price of coal dropping steel production, or a few farms bringing in industrial equipment leading to a precipitous increase in the price of gasoline, Mr Fox predicted it all with the use of newspapers. Unfortunately, the poor job the intern was doing made it hard for him to focus his attention on the goings on, thinking more about the paperwork he was going to have to do this afternoon about finalising the purchase of the Dewson Shipping company, so when it happened he almost missed it.
"A- and it would seem t-tthat a war has finally broken out between the Moderali and the coalition against them. Umm... (where was I?) Ahh yes! It is not expected that trade between us and the Imperium, or between any of the Hansa states is going to be affected, although trade between the Latin League states may have some troubles."
Mr Fox turned his head away from the window, "Yes, that sounds about right. Poor bastards, they got half the world and both the major trading blocs coming down on their heads. Hell, they even managed to get the Imperium and Sadalers working together, which is frankly amazing. All that trade disruption is going to be a mess for the Imperium, lucky for them they joined the Hansa..." Mr Fox furrowed his brow and turned fully towards the intern. Something about that statement had spiked his attention... and then it hit him.
"They joined the Hansa!" he exclaimed.
"Y-yes they did sir." replied the intern.
Mr Fox rushed over to his desk and began rifling through papers, looking for a specific document. When he found and pulled it out, a flurry of documents flung out of the drawer and onto the floor as he slammed the paper onto the desk and grabbed the monocle out of his breast pocket and began to read.
Mr Fox slammed his fists onto the desk, "Aha! YES!" He then looked back up at the startled intern, "If you could please clean up the mess I just made, I have an unexpected meeting to organise." And with that, rushed out of the room.
