Salve,
You may consider this our final offer to cease hostilities and return to the diplomatic table. Should you refuse this offer, no further attempts at diplomacy will be made or heard barring your unconditional surrender. The ultimatum has three conditions that must be accepted in full.
I. Moderal will return all troops to her sovereign territory in the isles. II. Moderal will demilitarize, in perpetuity, her holdings on the mainland of Placidia. III. Moderal will return to the negotiations at the Heáhéclif Conference, and will accept the agreements so made there, following negotiations.
Should these terms not be agreed to within twenty four hours, you will find this document accepted by the Divinian Government as a formal declaration of war between our nations. It is in the best interest of your people that this final offer has been delivered, at the behest of the mercy and benevolence of His Ephemeral Majesty. Do not, for your pride, condemn thousands to death ar the hands of those who should be called your brethren.
Salve, Her Ephemeral Majesty, Ethlynn von Marcum Empress Regent of the Imperium Divinium

The Fleet Arrives
After long weeks at sea and harassment from Moderali pirates, so Grot Westflutt was now in sight of the Magdali land. As they approached the port which was to be their own, a nice serene calm fell over the fleet. They would soon be launching an attack on the neighbouring Moderali colony and from there beginning the greatest blockade in history. Should they succeed, their enemies would die by the thousands of starvation. Should they fail, the war would be worse for the Raikh.

The Fleet The enemy had move what could be best described as a third of their fleet into the territory that the Grot Westflutt was ordered to raise. This had led to no small amount of consternation, but orders had not been changed and with the proper plan an even greater victory could be achieved. Quietly and without much fanfare, most of the crews were off-loaded and armed. They would be marching overland to take the enemy port. In order to ease the task somewhat, skeleton crews would sail out of port and towards Duom. They were not to engage in combat, but in the event that they might be forced to, enough men would be with them to man all the guns for battle. The men would be tired to the bone and taking long shifts, but it was only to be for a few days and they would have certain stimulants on hand for combat. Given the shadowing that the fleet had experienced, it was taken as a given that the enemy fleet was there for them and would follow them. This would help isolate the main enemy port and make the capture of the colony easier. With the attack being organised the way it was, the enemy fleet would be useless and unable to help the colony or would be seen as attacking a neutral and innocent party should they decide to fight the Grot Westflutt. With these things decided, a representative was sent to the Magdali garrison-commander. If the Magdali joined in, then the plan would be that much easier, but if not, they could at least try to buy or borrow some land-guns for the invasion.

General Gomes da Costa was at his desk, sipping on some port during his allocated downtime. This peace, however, was disrupted when the guards ushered in a Sadaler representative.
"What is it that you want, good man?"
The man handed over a document detailing the battle plans and a formal request for aid, though this had the general perplexed.
"Attack? Now? But we haven't received any orders from the Capital! Am I to assume we find ourselves at war?" The man pondered for a bit. Sending a message to the capital would take possibly days, and if an attack was to happen, would that not imply that the Moderali had refused the ultimatum? Finally, he stood. If this was so, he could not afford to wait any longer. "Very well. We will assist this offensive. You can count with 4,000 fully equipped infantrymen, and 2,880 artillerymen. I trust your men will have no qualms working in tandem with our mixed armies. I will send you an officer to ease communications between us. You are dismissed."

Tusk's Raid After the massive battle and having rested and eaten the freshly prepared Moderali breakfast foods, the forces of the Raikh split up. Half of the unwounded were left in what remained of the enemy naval base and out of the storm to tend to the wounded and the few prisoners taken, while the rest set about their work with captured Moderali artillery, explosives, and Magdali artillery. The bombardment was ruthless and despite the hurrican or possibly because of it, the fires spread. Some of the shells landed well and the port's fuel went up in smoke. After half a day's work, nothing was left and the force had looted and enslaved the survivors. With a bit of difficulty, they dropped all the naval mines they could find in the waters around the port too and with their work done, they returned. After two days of hurricane, the men were able to return to the naval base triumphant. Upon return to friendly land, a simple telegram was sent home. 'Forgive us Lord, for we have Sindh.' Following that, an encrypted report was sent detailing the events of the battle. From: Fluttfaðs Tusk, of His Holy Majesty's Great Western FleetThe time was six-thirty and the temperature was fifty-two degrees, with heavy rains all around. We lost our heavy siege cannons in the mud but made good time stealing upon the enemy, passing patrols or killing them before they could raise the alarm. We entrenched quickly and began the bombardment at seven, with the first volleys only hitting a few targets but all subsequent ones being quite effective. The enemy was put into a state of complete disarray and it is believed that we wiped out their officers in the initial attack, for they did not organise properly afterwards. After wiping out a few thousand soldiers, we saw them start to take flight and so our Magdali friends sent the cavalry in pursuit. Naturally, my sailors followed as well in order to force a surrender. The mud was incredibly difficult and many of the Moderali drowned in it, but we did not. We glided easily over the terrain and quickly came upon them, driving them swiftly into a river where many died. Unfortunately, the rains intensified and it became quite the hurricane, leading to mudslides. Four-hundred of our brave men died from that, though many thousands more of the enemy did so also. While this was happening, two forces number twenty-thousand or so managed to organise and launched two attacks. One attack was upon the artillery and failed miserably, being repulsed by our Magdali friends and totally broken. The other attack was upon our rear. We were able to spot them and thankfully, the cavalry had been ordered to withdraw back to our lines and rest before we had been flanked, which led to them seeing the attackers and reporting them to our friends. We formed two lines to five our foes pinned against the river and approaching our rear, but that was not to be for long. We ten-thousand five-hundred and forty-four stood against over six-hundred thousand, and as such had to close ranks. Due to the lack of bayonets, some four in five of us were armed with boarding pikes and axes. We formed squares and fought desperately, which forced the cowardly and incompetent Moderali to lob grenades at us despite the tightness of our scrum. We got off far easier than they did and returned the favour, causing massively casualties. Sadly, our formation began to break apart and in their wisdom, our friends began shelling us and the enemy, so as to stop us from facing defeat and bring about victory. Half of our number died there and then to the shells, but thousands more of the enemy perished with us. Our pikes were soaked in blood and the ground itself rose up to embrace the fallen. Having broken the enemy, we withdrew to our lines and to protect the guns, which allowed us to fully break them. We glorious five-thousand were left and we did not flee, taking victory from the grasp of our broken enemies. It is like so that we took Sindh and have now destroyed not only the army which we were sent to starve but the entire colony as well. Yours, Fluttfaðs Tusk, of His Holy Majesty's Great Western Fleet
In response to this stunning victory, Fluttfaðs Tusk given the Conqueror's Circlet and the names of Moderalijban and Grotlatban were conferred onto him. He also received the Order of the Companions, the Raikhsward, the Cross of the Frontiers, the Order of the Kos, the Golden Ring of Valour, the Silver Ring of Valour, the Fleet Service Order (as well as a nomination for the War Service Medal), the White Shield, the Order of Good Servants, and the Red Tassel. All of his subordinates were awarded the Red Tassel and Fleet Service Order, with all of his officers receiving the Hauhkuno's Schilling. Many of his men also received the White shield and some of his captains received both the Golden and Silver Rings of Valour.

November 20 th, 1908 On the morning after the battle, medics were called from the base at Estremoz. They set out tending for both the Sadaler and Magdali wounded, they proceeded to tend to the wounded that had remained from the Moderali side. Most of the Moderali soldiers were cagy and skiddish, refusing to talk while receiving treatment. Some even attempted to fight the medics. But some of them did give in, and spoke to the medics. They were apalled at the sort of living conditions that the Moderali soldiers reported. The Families of Moderal really were stretching thin. They were growing desperate, as resources became increasingly scarce, even for them. While the soldiers were too wrapped in propaganda to realize exactly how dire their situation was, even they expressed some concern. The vast majority of both regiments was Rodinan by birth, and those that were not recovering the siege canons, or helping around the captured base, had gone and picked up instruments from home base, and set up a little improvised band. They sang songs in their native tongue, while the others worked about. All in all, despite the losses, the camp was in joyous celebration. They had struck a massive blow on the Moderali, with a force a fraction of the size of the enemy's. Apple trees and pear trees went into blooming, River mists began a floating flow, She came out and went ashore, Katyusha! On the lofty bank, on the steeply shore. She came out and sang she song about Her young friend, the bluish eagle from steppe All about the one she dearly loved, The one whose letters she treasured and kept. Hey, a song, the song of the young girl, Fly and go after the bright Sun, Find a soldier on the distant borderlands Say hello from Katya waiting long for him. Let him remember the young and simple maiden, Let him hear the song she now sings, Let him protect his Fatherland for sure, And their love Katyusha will protect.General Gomes da Costa, for his part, wrote up an report, and mailed it back to the capital.
November 20th, 1908 From: His Excellency General Gomes da Costa To: RAF High command STATUS REPORT In the afternoon of the 18 th, We were approached by a Sadaler representative. He asked us if we would aid on an offensive on the Moderali base to the East of ours. While we had not received word from you, we were left to assume that war was upon us, and that word had simply failed to reach us yet. It is my firm belief that my decision to accept the request for assistance was made in good faith, and that the Sadaler had no intention of deceiving us. The Infantry and Artillery regiments present incorporated the Sadaler force, and we set out to the Moderali camp. Scouting parties drafted a path for the guns to trudge through, but a heavy downpour begun, and the larger guns were lost in the mud. By 6:30 of the 19 th, the force was in position and began entrenching. By 7:00, the first bombardment hit the Moderali force. While it was not very accurate, subsequent bombardments proved to be quite effective. It is believed the initial blast killed most of the officers present, for the base erupted into a panic. Moderali soldiers began to rout almost immediately, with several thousands lost to the mudslides and rivers of the area. Afterwards, our Cavalry was sent in to charge the routed fortification. The Sadaler followed after us, and many more thousands of the Moderali were killed, either by our soldiers or the environment. Subsequent attacks by the few Moderali forces that managed to reorganize failed miserably against our entrenched positions, and we had to shell dangerously close to our own forces, as they were vastly outnumbered by the coordinated Moderali attack. Thankfully most of our own forces prevailed. The remainder of the Moderali forces either routed or mutinied, and we and the Sadaler were able to capture the rest. As of my writing of this report, the Sadaler have been laying mine on the waters around the Moderali harbor, and my own men are tending to the wounded of both sides of the conflict. While this was an impressive victory on our part, our forces were reduced to roughly half of their original size, and I humbly request reinforcements. I do not expect the Moderali to take this loss lightly. I also recommend that soldier Francisca Martins be awared a commendation for her service in the battle. Her gun crew covered the retreat of fellow soldiers further into the trench works, and proved to be such a big obstacle, that the Moderali had to maneuver around her position. signed, General Gomes da Costa
November 21st, 1908 When the message arrived on the capital, the officers erupted into a Panic. The General was off to the land of the Tholes to attend an international conference, and the Empress was still on her world tour. What were they to do? Finally, one of them stood. "We can't pretend this incident did not happen. We must tell the Divinans that there was an attack on the Moderali base. But we needn't be the aggressors..."
From: General Norton de Matos, RAF High Command To: Empress Ethlynn Von Marcum of the Imperium Divinum STATUS REPORT In the afternoon of the 18th, Moderali soldiers were reported to be advancing past the agreed border between both Colonial holding on the Peninsula of Estremoz, North of the Duomish strait. Said soldiers were reported to be attacking our patrols indiscriminately. Our forces were joined with the Sadaler's, and we repelled the aggressors. While the conflict seemed to have stopped there, the General present took it upon himself to pursue the attackers, and the joint Magdali-Sadaler force assaulted the Moderali military base. The base was taken and their soldiers held captive. A more detailed report of events is listed bellow. While we are in no position of authority to suggest such a thing, we deeply recommend a conference of the Latin League be called to discuss the matter of Moderal. The treachery of their families has gone on for too long, and punitive action must be taken. signed, General Norton de Matos, RAF High Command

The Divinian Senate was in a panic upon the delivery of news of a preemptive Moderali attack so soon after they had agreed to the ultimatum. Immediate dictatorial power was bestowed upon the Emperor Florin to act in Divinian defense, to shouts of “Down with the Traitor, Up with the Stars!” Even the Estrarians, so recently subjugated, joined the throng in support of the emperor, fearing Moderali action against them.
Without formal declaration of war, the Second Army began to March on the Moderali holdings in Placidia. The Royal armies were called into immediate service, convening upon their designated depots in Divina Magna for potential deployment. The Home Fleet was ordered along with a request of support from Rashad’s fleet, to close off the Great Bay in a curtain of steel.
For the second time in so many years, troops crossed the pomerium of Divinian cities, raising up the golden serpent of the Dictatorial Banner.

Whilst the message went back to Rashad the High seas fleet set up patrols To protect the Divian heartland from any naval attacks as well as provide a forward screen for the transport ships. To support the fleet where naval detachments from WTC and the ID along with the already attached DOC ships.

It has come to our attention that your forces, after having spent months harassing our shipping, sought to do battle against our forces in Magdalenum. Your horde of a million was easily dispatched by a mere seventeen-thousand, your colony torched for its insolence.
We give you this final message, surrender or perish. Your crimes are well known from Scilly to Cathay, your names laughed at and spat upon. You have attacked our men twice now and twice have we lost blood to your punic tricks, no more! We demand you pay our weregeld, as set by our courts, and forswear any claims to territorial waters beyond those granted to you by convention and likewise any claims to the air or land.

Quickly a message was sent to the Imperium, why are you marching on our territory? Based upon sound reports from the Imperium Magdalenum, the Divinian Government has received news of a Moderali attack on the sovereign territory of Magdalenum. As such, Divinium must, in the interest of her national security, move on the Moderali holdings in Placidia. The Second Army is not an invading force, and shall not cross the legal border of your holdings. Moderali citizens found beyond your territorial borders will be escorted to your territory, and military forces detained, questioned, and released back into your custody. Due to the magnanimous temperament of the Emperor, we believe, at present, that the troops in Magdalenum were acting without orders from the noble families. Thus, to ensure a similar event does not take place with your disjointed troops in Placidia, we will take action to pre-emptively contain any threat. Salvete, Samuel Coltain, Divinian Councilor of Arms.

Imagine my surprise when I was informed of an unwarranted attack on our Colonial holdings in the Peninsula of Estremoz. This attack shan't go unpunished.
I give you this final message, you now stand at the precipice of annihilation. We demand immediate reparation for any damages sustained by our forces and the Sadalers, and that your Colony be fully demilitarized for a period of 40 years, after which the situation shall be reviewed. In exchange any prisoners under our custody will be released, and our troops shall withdraw back into our borders. While we have hope that this was an isolated incident that will not repeat itself, we must act towards our own safety.

She was not sure exactly how the Moderali had managed to govern themselves in this manner for so long. Refusing an ultimatum? Were they mad? As much as she wanted to squash these insolent petty Lords, she wrote up a letter to the Divinan Regent instead. From: Her Most Faithful Majesty, Empress Isabel Afonses de Roque To: Empress Regent Ethlynn Von Marcum of the Imperium Divinum I am saddened to inform you that, unfortunately, The Moderali have refused to comply to our ultimatum. Naturally we will take measures to ensure the safety of our lands, and I have already instructed our armed forces to call for a partial mobilization. Still, I belive we ought to give the Moderali one final chance. I suggest we summon the Major Families to a meeting in Latium Novum, after I leave from my visit to the Associated Cities. If the meeting fails, then we shall take more drastic measures. I am under no delusions that they will willingly bend to any of our demands, especially after an attack so soon after their accepting of your own ultimatum, but we can only hope to solve this like civilized people before we take more violent options. Best Regards, Her Most Faithful Majesty, Empress Isabel Afonses de Roque

Rerum Repetitio A man was sought out and asked to carry out the declaration of war. He was given nice robes, his brow was covered in a woollen band, he was given bombs, he was given a sword, he was given a spear, and he was dispatched. He was put on a boat with another volunteer, one meant to represent the Hauhkuno in the declaration, and after three weeks of travel, arrived off the shore of Moderal's main island. Now at the frontier, he began shouting his demands, 'Surrender or death, by the wanderer, Wotan, I speak!' Hurling himself over the boat's edge and trudging ashore, he once again repeated his demands, 'Surrender or death, by the gods of this land and many others, I speak!' When he came to the first men, for they had come out to meet him, he once again repeated his demands, 'Surrender or death, by the builder, Svarog, I speak!' The infidels, seeing him and fearing his words, opened fire upon him. Half of their number died in this action, for his bombs went off. The man sent to represent the Hauhkuno saw this and seeing this crime, departed, so as to inform the Raikh of the Moderali response.
Response to Moderal's Crimes Þata Raikh af hize Dalin bifinð sik at Kreg mid þata Raikh af Moderal. Ija habban seina Schwaofalðstuggogshaidus en Untriggwshaidus biwiesjan, umbi ija ain hauhkunoleiks Budo gaquellan, sa an Kregsusaiðing fauralagðs. Faura þata Frabrikan wiþer þai Guðen motan ija alls dawjan. So Faihzagshaidus walj nimid Dwallj duginnan. They have shown their duplicity and infidel nature, killing an imperial envoy presenting a declaration of war. For this crime against the gods, they must all die. Hostilities shall commence immediately. As was once done against the Gankander threat, will now once more be done against them. Their cities are to be burned, the soldiers shown no mercy, and their women made to lament their cruel fate.
