Florin sat, puffy-eyed in his quarters, tutor looming over his shoulder as he painstakingly wrote the letter, as instructed. His tongue pushed through his teeth, as he focused on recalling the right words in Tholish. Though not perfect, he was far more confident with it than some of the other languages he had been required to learn. When he had finished to the satisfaction of his educator, instructions were sent for appropriate delivery. The letter read:
Dear Uncle, Thank you very much for the treats you sent to me! It is not even the anniversary of my christening! Grandmother only wanted me to try a few, but I snuck the rest into my quarters when she went to bed. Don’t tell her! Tholish sweets sure are neat! They’re really different than what we have here! Do my cousins get to have stuff like this every day? I wanted to ask you a favor. I hope it is not trouble, but I sent you a thank you gift. Sort of. Asphodel was my mom’s owl. He used to go hunting with her a lot. But grandmother says I’m too young to hunt, and I feel bad for him. St. Helena is too big a city, and I think he might like your home. Grandmother said it’s “a wilderness”. Neato! I bet he’d enjoy it there. Just, please promise to let him go out lots! Cathal said mom used to take him out flying every night. Thanks a lot!
Sincerely, Florin

Little Emperor, I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the biscuits, and in regards to your deception, my lips are sealed, for you see, I too have many memories of sneaking off with a tray's worth of cookies, though I am a bit too old to do so now. In regards to your cousins, they do get some sweets with their evening tea if they have been well behaved and attentive. Your gift of Asphodel certainly was no trouble, he's taken to his new lodgings rather well, and I intend to take him out today after I have finished my work; your majesty truly is generous. I do believe he'll take well to this "wilderness," after all wild lands rear strong men, and Asphodel certainly seems the strong sort. I do hope to meet soon, perhaps a visit is in order when things are a bit more orderly in the world.
Kind regards, Wilhelm
