+Journal of Vice Admiral Mossel, Commander of the IVth Exploratory Fleet+
i. Arrival: We approached the land mass with smoke billowing from our smokestacks, 5 in number, a Battlecruiser, 3 convoys, and one of the largest cargo ships in the Empire, carrying innumerable supplies, munitions, and precious resources, like fuel, food, and water. By our maps and calculations, we would begin our exploration of the island on the most south-eastern peninsula of the island and begin mapping the peninsula for the purposes of establishing at least a semi-permanent base of operations for the Imperial Navy. I have faith that our mission will be a success and that the Empire will welcome us all with open arms once our task is complete.
ii. First Month: The unnamed island has hence been named Octavius Island, in honor of our glorious Prince Regent. The ships have all been anchored, supplies have begun to be unloaded, and a makeship camp was made, although the ground is still mostly frozen, so it has been necessary to find and burn most of the wood we have brought to thaw the ground for proper trenches and buildings to begin construction. Further ranges in-land have proved valuable. The land is hard and unforgiving, although it does have a wealth of coniferous tree life and the men have seen caribou and other sorts of cold weather animals out and about. The peninsula that we have inspected thus far has a large, swift river, some miles north of us at this time. I will be sending more men to inspect this area in the future.
iii. Second Month: We have shifted our camp to the north by the banks of the river, still partially frozen, but not enough to walk upon with the warmer temperatures. Our rangers have found mountain rages to the northwest, which they say are very formidable, and that the river we are encamped upon is feed from the melting snows of the northern mountain peaks. I and the rest of my staff have concluded that with proper construction, the mouth of the river and the cove around it, is large and deep enough to potentially serve as a small deep-water port for a small task force of destroyers, convoys, and armored convoys. Capt. John Wilkens, a former member of the Naval Port Building Commission, has assured me that with proper resources dedicated to it, this place (now proclaimed as New Arondight), could potentially be a large port used by the Imperial Navy to secure our hold over the northern passage into warmer waters south of us. I have sent back a single convoy, the IMS Discord, to bring the good news back to the Imperial Capital, and to show our findings in depth. I have decided to remain for a greater amount of time. God Bless Prussoia, and God Bless the Prince Regent.
iv. Third Month: A basic port has been built using resources brought with us and those found on land. Although not yet equipped with the ability to take in I.N vessels, we have received confirmation from the Crown that New Arondight has been formally been brought into the Imperial domain and will recieve regular shipments of supplies, weapons, resources, engineering companies and building materials to continue the work that we have began here. The Crown has also confirmed me as the sole governor of the province, given that we have almost solely military personnel here. I have a feeling that the Empire will not regret establishing themselves here.
