Local Inventor Keeps Harbours Safe!
A local inventor, Kaleb Cole, has designed and built a magnificent device which can be used to detect ships at sea, without then needing to be visible to the naked eye. The device, known now as the Cole Device uses electro-magnetic waves to detect ships and other large obstructions up to a distance of three kilometers, no matter the weather! In foggy conditions or heavy rain, this device could immensely decrease the hazards of navigating in heavily trafficked waters and give ships time to change course to avoid collision. Mr. Cole declined to be interviewed besides a short statement wherein he declared that he made the device "to make people safer" and because he had been fascinated by the idea for some time. He also declared that he planned on making an improved version of his device which will be able to detect ships up to ten kilometers away and give accurate distance measurements to the detected target, although it is unclear how far through development this model is.
The harbourmaster and several ship captains showed interest in Mr Cole's contraption and have requested, at no small expense, several examples of the Cole Device for further testing in the local harbour. In the meantime, Mr Cole has made several demonstrations from the harbour shore showing the capabilities of his device which does indeed seem to detect vessels as they transit the harbour. Spectators are encouraged to visit Mr Cole on foggy days to wonder as a ship detected by Mr Cole's device looms out of the fog.
