Maiden Voyage In order to put the new Imperial Navy through its paces, the Department of War’s Grand Admiral Kazuyuki assigned Strike Commander Rodriguez to take 2 cruisers and 3 destroyers on an expedition southeast. Accompanying the fleet are 2 divisions of Imperial Marines (28,500 men) and 1 Company of Avispas Negras (180 men). Should they come across any islands, they’ll have the necessary authority to establish a protectorate and port. If such terms aren’t accepted by the natives, then a full-scale invasion can take place before or after reinforcements arrive. Thus, the IC Guajiro, IC Tanoshī, ID Don Rodriguez, ID Itami, and ID Densetsu departed from port and went on their journey.

The Negotiations As a number of men landed upon the beaches, they were greeted by the locals, who quickly brought their king. These people called themselves the Māori, and they were similar to the Hawaijin described in scholarly research. Now, the negotiations were underway, but the king refused to let his kingdom become a protectorate unless he could be bested in a duel. There were many volunteers, especially among the black wasps, but they were all denied. Strike Commander Rodriguez would be the one to take up the challenge, to guarantee victory and minimize loss. So the king took hold of two spears and walked over to the appointed place. The Strike Commander followed suit, unsheathing his rapier and dagger. As the fight began, the king threw his first spear, which Rodriguez deflected from the third quadrant rising into first. At that, the king began to advance quickly towards Rodriguez, planning to thrust his spear into his chest. Rodriguez, therefore, did something he never thought he’d do, lunge. As he lunged and extended his arm in a thrust, his sword impaled the king. However, the king's spear pierced his left shoulder. The two men were separated by marine medics and tended to. The king, however, wouldn’t survive his injuries. There was a great sadness about the people, but they recognized their new rulers.

The Aftermath After the necessary preparations were completed, Grand Admiral Kazuyuki, with the approval of the Sovereign Emperor, sent for a division of the Imperial Army to be stationed on the islands. The marines and SF that were on the islands returned to their home bases. The construction of a naval base and a civilian port had now begun on the island.
