The dormant power of Dunwik had turned inwards after the Great War, to pacify Leng and to crush the socialist revolts that had emerged as a consequence of Sadaler preaching. However the lords of Miskatonic would not be delayed for long. As Kaskader plummeted into civil war, the vulture that was Dunwik descended upon the ailing nation.
Admiral Goldwheel, promoted for meritorious service in the Great War, took command of the naval operation, and together with Minister Clarke and Minister Lucas, the three hatched a multi-pronged operation to ensure the Kaskader people were kept firmly under Dunwik’s thumb.
It began with attacks on Dunwikki harbors by unknown assailants. The socialist front of the Union under Jamie Steele were swiftly blamed. Under torture, many captured men confessed to being Socialist agents and were swiftly executed. Most of these were former Union bosses or mob dons who tried exerting too much influence.
With just cause, Dunwik declared the war a threat to not only Kaskader sovereignty but also to international stability and peace, and that they needed to step in to stabilize the situation.
Their intervention was typically Dunwikki.
Under the guise of international aid, vessels loaded with addictive narcotics were sent, exchanging drugs of dubious quality for much needed money, precious metals, and material goods. Arms were smuggled and sold at exorbitant prices to all sides bar the Socialists, but those factions under the Anarchists and the Northern Command of Forsyth were given the best deals - and new, horrifying, experimental weapons. Flamethrowers, armored cars, the latest in gas warfare, and experts in their use were handed over. Mercenary companies, hardened veterans from Asderordia and Leng, emerged to ransack and slaughter in the lands of the socialists and monarchists bearing no uniforms and claiming alliegance to either the monarchists or socialists, seeking to drive a wedge between those two factions. Socialism and Monarchism were made parodies of themselves, extremist and incompatible. Those preachers were usually murdered before they started believing their own rhetoric - a war zone is a dangerous place. A Sadaler monarcho-socialist front in Dunwik’s backyard was unthinkable and considered the greatest threat to Dunwik.
Meanwhile, every effort was made to unite the Anarchists and the Northern Command under the banner of Dunwikki anarcho-capitalism, where anyone could be a king with the right will and drive. Where the most glittering and prosperous nation on the Southern Hemisphere rose to be an international titan in merely sixty years.
Most nefariously, as to prevent “future incursion” the fleet of Dunwik descended upon the shores, their many destroyers laying mines and giving loud warning of these mines. If anyone wanted to reach the souther coasts, they would need to pay a steep toll for guidance through the minefields.
In Miskatonic, the Grand Chairman directed his eyes back outwards and North, as Kaskader descended into fire once more.
