BELLVM 戦争 WAR! Takeda Ō Akihiro, the sovereign of Ryukyu, has decided to put an end to the Japanese menace once and for all. He deployed an army of 350,000 to subjugate the northern barbarians. Standing by is a conscript force of 300,000. The main force consists of: 200,000 riflemen, machine gun crew, and grenadiers 50,000 dragoons 50,000 lancers 25,000 cuirassiers 25,000 artillerymen The strategy is as follows: Cuirassiers and dragoons will scout ahead of the infantry. They will then have three courses of action: 1. If the resistance is weak, they can deal with it themselves and give a positive report. 2. If there is no resistance, give a positive report. 3. If there is heavy resistance, give a negative report. The infantry are instructed to march in column when given a positive report, and move in battle formation when given a negative report.

SKIRMISH REPORT Near the town of Kyumachi, some 60 cuirassiers were out scouting. Suddenly, down the road, there assembled a group of about 80~100 men. These were warriors clad in armor, wielding swords and muskets. As they advanced, the Ryukyuan cuirassier captain saw the opportunity to test the new Type-T2C carbines they got from the Department of Supply. “300 meters front, gentlemen! Fire 5 rounds!” As bullets whizz through the air and the bang of the guns echo off the mountains, about half of the advancing block of men were felled. Having lost all morale, the would-be attackers routed and fled. The captain turned to his soldiers and said: “Well gentlemen, any complaints about your new toys?” One of the men replied: “No, sir.” The captain responded: “Good, we need to clean up this mess anyway,” He unsheathes his gunto, “Charge!” Not one of the clubmen escaped, all were either killed or captured. The Ryukyuan Cuirassiers suffered no casualties.

MAJOR BATTLE REPORT A major battle has broken out at the Shikaigan Islands. While attempting to land at the islands to take them, the landing boats were lit up by heavy machine gun fire. A several hour long struggle ensued. Landing craft rushed up onto the shore, trying to make a beachhead. Riflemen fired volleys from the ships. Artillerymen tried to stabilize their Type-D1 guns as well as possible. One man, Yuki Heitai Densetsu, accomplished a legendary feat. When the rest of his M1 team was shot dead, he removed the tripod and picked up the gun himself, killing a slew of Japanese soldiers. When he ran out of ammunition, he took up his gunto and cleared out all of the machine gun nests himself. Once the MG nests were taken care of, the rest of the infantry could storm the beaches and take the island. The total Ryukyu casualty count was 105,000. 35,000 men were killed. 75,300 men were injured. For his actions, Heitai Densetsu was given the Warrior’s Turtleshell (an award for “bravery and defending your comrades”), a cash reward, and he was allowed to keep an enemy katana and pistol. 100,000 men from the reserve were called to join the main force. This left the reserve with 200,000 men and the main force with 345,000 men.

OCCUPATION REPORT There was no resistance in the Yama No Itadaki region. Instead, the Ryukyuan soldiers were welcomed with waving flags and thrown flowers. They were given food and drink by the locals, thus lessening the strain on both the Department of Supply and the soldiers' stomachs, who were sick of their rations. There was giftgiving, merrymaking, and an overall peace. For the cooperation that was exhibited, the local leader was promised a job in the prefecture’s governance.

MAJOR BATTLE REPORT On the fields of Mōsugudesu, a Japanese army appeared, ready for battle. But besides them, there was a band of Ainu mercenaries, all horse archers. The Ryukyuans have expected them to be here, and thus already dug their trenches. There was also, a presence of artillery guns and mortars. However, unbeknownst to the Japanese, the Ryukyuan machine gunners and semi automatic riflemen were hiding behind some hills. As the lines of infantry unleashed their volleys, and the Japanese line dwindled, the Ainu horse archers began to trot towards the Ryukyuan trench, intending to pepper them with arrows. Upon seeing this, the Ryukyu commander gave the signal to the Captain of the Lancers. “Our targets are those horse archers coming toward us! Now, at a trot!” When the lancers were within 150 meters of their target, the captain yelled: “Couch lances! At a gallop, charge!” Having no means to defend themselves against this attack, the Ainu were utterly devastated. After the successful action, the lancers were signaled to retreat back to friendly lines. Another signal was given to the men hiding on the hills to start opening fire. The Japanese lines shattered at the hailstorm of machine gun fire, rifle bullets, and indirect fire from mortars. As the enemy routed, all cavalry gave chase, causing complete destruction. The Ryukyuan casualties that day were 5. 0 were killed. 5 were injured. The main force is now at 345,000, no reinforcements were called.

OCCUPATION REPORT The region of Shōri was captured without much resistance. There were some clubmen and militia that tried to stop the Ryukyuan army, but they were arrested by military police. With that, the war was over. Military police and cavalry patrolled the new territory, the infantry were allowed leave, and all that’s left are matters of administration. PAX 平和 PEACE!

Aftermath of the War The Unified Sovereignty of Ryukyu, having won the war and captured all of Yūhi, has adopted the alternate name of “The United Ryukyu Empire of Yūhi”. The captured territories added another 20 million to the population, for a total of 48,000,000. Most of these were Japanese, with some Ainu. Some demographics were shifted around. Riflemen carrying the Type-T2 complained that it didn’t have enough ammo capacity and they ran dry too quickly. Navy officers were complaining that their ships and landing boats were too weak at the Battle of Shikaigan. Now, attention can be turned to other matters.
