Isabel was caressing the one-year-old Beatriz in her arms, singing her to sleep. She had always been very sickly, and had trouble falling asleep. She'd spend the whole day struggling with labored breathing, and was much less energetic than her older sibling was, for her age.
Dorme meu menino a estrela d'alva
Já a procurei e não a vi
Se ela não vier de madrugada
Outra que eu souber será pra ti
ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô (bis)
Outra que eu souber na noite escura
Sobre o teu sorriso de encantar
Ouvirás cantando nas alturas
Trovas e cantigas de embalar
ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô (bis)
Trovas e cantigas muito belas
Afina a garganta meu cantor
Quando a luz se apaga nas janelas
Perde a estrela d'alva o seu fulgor
ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô ô (bis)
Perde a estrela d'alva pequenina
Se outra não vier para a render
Dorme quinda à noite é uma menina
Deixa-a vir também adormecer
Sleep little one the morning star
I've looked for it and I haven't seen it
If she doesn't come at dawn
Another one I know will be for you
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (bis)
Another one I know in the dark night
About your charming smile
You will hear them singing on high
Songs and lullabies
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (bis)
Very beautiful songs and lullabies
Tune your throat my singer
When the light goes out in the windows
The morning star loses its glow
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh (bis)
Lose the tiny morning star
If another one doesn't come to surrender
Sleep the night is still young
Let her also come to sleep
Beatriz finally fell asleep. But something was off. The grip on Isabel's arms, it was looser than usual. She had gone completely limp.
"No no no..." Isabel said, putting her hand on Beatriz's chest. She wasn't breathing. "Dammit, no!"
Isabel didn't know what to do. Tears running down her face, she ran out of the room, her daughter in her arms. "HELP! HENGIST! ANYONE!"
