Coming to you live from Sykes Bay, for the first time in our young history, we at the Capital Broadcasting Company are proud to present the first live debates between candidates for the office of Governor-General!
I, William Clark will be our moderator for the night, and first I must congratulate all four of you fine gentlemen for taking up the helm for their parties.
This will start off as open debate, first discussing the still evolving situation down in New Respite. Governor-General Fairbairn, as you have already laid out your plans concerning the situation, would you please start things off?
Fairbairn: I still stand by finding peace as the first option, the same belief I held during the War of Liberation. We should not get involved in this conflict, even if it is to break out. We should work on keeping ourselves together and unified.
Rivers: I must agree with the Governor-General, peace must be maintained, to follow the dreams of kings is not the reason we sought liberation, it is for every man to follow our own dreams. And conscripting men to go fight and die in a foreign war does not match with the very concept that we hold so dear.
von Sykes: We were once a great and proud nation, but only under the rule of a monarch. So be it if the next man in Sykes Bay is not a member of the esteemed von Sykes linea-
Haliday: Will you shut the hell up! Goddamnit, a King is not what we fought to keep in power, our decision to make our own choices, reach for the stars, and make men and women free is spat upon by the fact that you are even allowed to present yourself to the people. The only way democracy and liberty, not just for we in the shadow of the Kaskadien Range, or those in the Ringsea, but for this entire world is to harness our industrial might hand in hand with our long-standing agricultural prowess, and make a great arsenal of liberty, to take the fight to the evils and tyrants of our world.
Rivers: Have you seen our size compared to the great powers of Sadalen, the Tholish, and the Imperium Dividium? We would be massacred in a fight against any of them, even Dunwik would toll the bell of democracy if we went to war!
Clark: Alright, Gentlemen, I believe this conversation is becoming uncivilized
Haliday: Don't protect him! If he wishes to call the people of this proud nation cowards, let him preach to a band of king slayers, mountaineers, and patriots about how their war of liberation speaks nothing!
Fairbairn: I must agree with your sentiment-
Haliday: Since when were you a hypocrite?
Fairbairn: Can I finish? I agree with your beliefs, but Mr. Haliday we cannot fight for other's freedom if we must risk our own.
Haliday: I would much prefer a short and merry life of dangerous liberty than a long one of slaving away for tyrant's protection.
Rivers: I don't think you are being reasonable, Mr. Haliday. We cannot take on powers alone! We must look for our best interests!
von Sykes: Then why not join the Hansa! We cannot beat the powers of the world, but we ought to be able to collaborate with such esteemed powers.
Haliday: I see freedom and collaboration only with the DOC. Economic Freedom is as essential as any other. We will never be able to fully utilize our oil, land, or industry if we have handicapped ourselves domestically. Our people can set new heights in new lands, and aid the world financially, if nothing else.
