Brief Overview
The United Kingdom of Magdalenum is an Island Nation on the World’s Northern Hemisphere. Magdalenum is a Constitutional Monarchy, ruled by a "Magdal" (literally “he who leads”), who shares his rule over the land with the Kingdom’s Parliament, called the “Assembleias Gerais”, or just “Assembleia” (General Assembly). The Magdal is the Head of State, and the Assembleia is the Legislative Branch. Demonym: Magdali Official Language: Magdalês (Magdalese) Official Religion: Magdali Pantheon Population: 47.115.669 Currency: Magdali Shield (M)
National Animal: Bull
Anthem: A Magdália (The Magdalia) Motto: Liberius mori satius est, quam in pace, subditos. (It is better to die free, than in peace, subjected.)
Political Geograhpy
The land belonging to the Kingdom is called the “Ilhas Magdalas” (Magdal Isles). The Isles have been divided into three “Províncias” (Provinces), two on “Grã Magdala” (Magdal Major), and one in “Magdala Menor” (Magdal Minor). They are, as shown in the map: the "Província Mãe" (Mother Province, or MP) in red, the "Província Oriental" (Eastern Province, or EP) in green, and the "Província do Norte" (Northern Province, or NP) in blue.
Map of the Imperium:
Founding History
In ancient times, people hailing from the land that is now the Imperium Divinum settled the Isles. Not much is known about that time, but the settlement eventually resulted in three separate kingdoms. Roughly 600 years ago from today, the Mother Province became the most militarily powerful nation on the Isles, after winning a territorial war with the Eastern Province. The Mother Province could’ve gone in a conquering rampage, it was indeed already hastily mobilizing for an invasion of the Northern Province, but instead, the lands acquired from the Eastern Province brought with them an unexpected addition, Religion. The Eastern Province’s religion spread across the Mother Province like wildfire, and before the Kingdom could mobilize for war, they had their own people demanding a new monarch. King Afonsus I of the new House of Magdala was crowned King and married the only daughter of the Eastern Province’s Royal House, resulting in a dynastic union of both Kingdoms. The Act of Union Treaty was later struck with the Northern Province, Bringing the Three Provinces into a Union under one Crown. Thus, the Kingdom of Magdalenum was born. Keenly aware of the fact that they owed their rule to the people, the first Kings of Magdalenum drafted and ratified a Constitution that would, through the centuries, shape the kingdom into what it is today.
Political System
The Head of State is the Magdal (King). The role is hereditary and the holder rules for life. Currently, the ruling King is Anfosus V of the House of Roque. The King is the supreme leader of the Armed Forces, and represents the Magdali people on foreign affairs. Only he can declare war, and ratify treaties made with foreign powers, including making peace. The Head of Government is the “Primeiro Ministro” (Prime Minister), who is appointed along with the rest of the Assembly by a vote. The Party, or “Junta”, with the most votes assumes the reigns of Government for 5 years, and the rest are assigned seats among the 230 seats of the Assembly in proportion to how many votes they have received. Only Adults (citizens above the age of 17) can vote. The Prime Minister then invites people from his Junta to fill the plethora of roles of Government during his stay, with the catch being that at any time, for any reason, the King can dismiss the Government, forcing early elections. Furthermore, each Province has its own Assembly, which is also elected by the people. Provincial Assemblies are allowed to make slight additions or changes to the nation’s laws, to better fit the economical/social climate of each province. Though, everything must be in accordance with the Constitution.
Industry The main Products the Isles export are: - Whaling Products - Wine - Coal
The Mother Province is the Industrial heartland of the Isles. Most whaling companies are housed along the province’s shores, with easier access to open seas and the factories in which the whales are processed. The Whalers have also become quite talented craftsmen, with some whaling companies selling carved ivory as luxury products.
The Eastern Province’s main export is coal. Coal deposits are plentiful among the province’s interior, and several coal mines have propped up to feed the ever-increasing needs of the Kingdom’s Industry. As a result, the Eastern Province has larger population centres on the interior instead of the coast, being unique among the isles, in that regard.
The Northern Province’s chief export is wine. The fertile lands created by ancient volcanic eruptions have historically produced the finest wines in the region. Most Coronation ceremonies have several toasts with either a vintage Roque red, or the most exquisite of Verdelhos.

Royal Armed Forces
The Kingdom's military is divided into three branches: The "Exército Real" (Royal Army), the "Marinha Real" (Royal Navy), and the "Agência de Informação das Forças Armadas" (RAF Intelligence Agency, or RAFIA). Each branch acts independently, answering only to the Chief of the "Forças Armadas do Reino" (Royal Armed Forces, or RAF). The Chief of the RAF reports directly to the Magdal. Soldiers in active service (during peacetime) : 27,748 | 9.500 in Army, 18,248 in Navy Soldiers in reserve (called into service if war is declared) : 54,496 | 18.000 in Army reserve, 36,496 in Navy reserve Total: 82,244 (the number of RAFIA operatives is classified) Royal Army
Motto: "In periculo et in bellis duris." (In effortful perils and wars) The Royal Army is the branch of the Armed Forces that operates in land. A typical Magdali soldier is equipped with a bayoneted ERB MK II bolt-action rifle or a Luísa gun, a six-shot RRB MK.III revolver, and a field knife. Officers carry a sabre instead of a rifle. Typical Magdali Infantrymen.
Artillery regiments employ "canhões de campo", or "CCs" for short (Field cannons). These may vary in size and explosive yield, but the standard are the 12 inch cannons. A standard 12 inch CC.
Royal Navy
Motto: "Patriam honora quam Patria te intuetur." (Honor the Fatherland, for the Fatherland beholds you)
The Royal Navy is the second and by far largest branch of the RAF. The Royal Navy operates in the seas around the isles, making sailing near the Kingdom without being detected practically impossible. Magdali Warships

Magdali Pantheon
The modern Magdali Pantheon has evolved from the ancient Eastern Province's religion, though with much more pronounced nautical themes, even evolving to have a Sea Goddess as the chief of the Pantheon. The Gods of the Pantheon are as follows:
- Thetis, Goddess of the Seas, Rule by Divine Right, and chief of the Pantheon; - Minerva, Goddess of War, Wisdom, and Strategy; - Juno, Goddess of Matrimony, Chastity, and Childbirth; - Hestia, Goddess of the Hearth, Family, and the State; - Vulcan, God of the Forge, Commerce, and Craftsmanship; - Jupiter, God of the Skies, Thunder, and Law; - Ceres, God of Fertility, Men, and Agriculture; - Venus, Goddess of Love, Women, and Beauty; - Pluto, God of the Dead, the Underworld, and Riches.
Each God has their own priesthood, with its special laws for what priests are and aren't allowed to do. The more notable examples are:
Priesthood of Thetis Members of the Priesthood can only be female. The head of the Priesthood is the Grand Priestess, who is also the head of the overall Pantheon Priesthood. Priestesses of Thetis are allowed to marry, as Thetis Herself is married to Jupiter. Though the Grand Priestess rarely marries.
Priesthood of Minerva Priests of Minerva can be of either sex. They aren't allowed to marry though, as Minerva herself is an unmarried virgin. Priests of Minerva preach words of wisdom, being considered good advisors for their respective communities. One of the Magdal's advisors is always a Priest of Minerva.
Priesthood of Juno Priestesses of Juno are exclusively female. They are allowed to marry, as Juno Herself is married to Vulcan. They are charged with performing most nuptial rites of the kingdom. In more remote areas of the Kingdom with no access to Hospitals, they are also often charged with being midwives.

National Music
National Anthem
The national Anthem is "Deus, Proteja a Magdala" (God save the Magdala), written by Mafalda de Sousa.
Lyrics (Magdalese):
Deus, proteja a Magdala! Forte, soberana, Reina para a glória, a nossa glória! Reina, terror dos teus inimigos, Católica Magdala. Deus, proteja a Magdala!
Lyrics (Rodinan):
Bozhe, Magdala khrani! Sillnyy, derzhavnyy, Tsarstvuy na slavu, na slavu nam!
Tsarstvuy na strakh vragam, Katolicheskaya Magdala! Bozhe, Magdala khrani!
Lyrics (English):
God, save the Magdala! Strong, sovereign, Reign for glory, For our glory!
Reign, dread of your enemies, Catholic Magdala. God, save the Magdala!
Patriotic Songs
Rule, Magdalia!
Lyrics:
When the people first, at heaven's command, Arose from out the azure main, This was the charter of the land, And Guardian Scions sang this strain: Chorus: Rule, Magdalia! Magdalia, rule the waves! The people never, never, never will be slaves. The nations not so blest as thee Must, in their turn, to tyrants fall, While thou shalt flourish great and free: The dread and envy of them all. Chorus Still more majestic shalt thou rise, More dreadful from each foreign stroke, As the loud blast that tears the skies Serves but to root thy native oak. Chorus Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tame; All their attempts to bend thee down Will but arouse thy generous flame, But work their woe and thy renown. Chorus To thee belongs the rural reign; Thy cities shall with commerce shine; All thine shall be the subject main, And every shore it circles, thine. Chorus The Muses, still with freedom found, Shall to thy happy coasts repair. Blest isles! with matchless beauty crowned, And manly hearts to guard the fair. Chorus
