The Great Eastern Canal Project was given assent as the Great Eastern Canal Act of 1195. To complete it's construction, the Great Eastern Canal Company was founded by the act and given a budget of 8,000,000 F to complete the project in 8 years. Immediately issues were seen in the project, firstly the lake being used for the canal was over 300 feet above Sea level in either direction, and as such it was planned that an intricate set of locks would be used. It would have to fit the massive Great Tit class Ocean liners and do so safely, thus making the initial estimate of 8 million Firjenons for the project seem impossible to stick to from the onset.
First of all though, men would have to be sent in to clear the route of jungle trees and clear out any natives.

Explorers were sent out to survey the proposed route and work out the project's feasibility, which was found to be fairly high if the trees were cleared out, as the route proposed was relatively flat, gently sloping upwards towards the lake. The lake was an unknown though, local savages had stories of an angry god living in the centre. This "God" appeared to be a geyser filled Island that frequently shot a jet of hot steam into the air, though this would be easy to avoid luckily, unlike if it had been a volcano. The Depth of the waters in the Lake were tested, and in the area tested, 132 feet of rope was required to reach the bottom, plenty for any ship to comfortably navigate. It is also to be noted plenty for Submarines to hide in if necessary for the defense of the canal from any foreign attacker. The lake's coast was also seen to be adequate for building a military base once the canals had been built. The recommended route from the survey is shown on the map below:

The Southern Canal was calculated to be a little over 16 and a half miles long, with the two northern canals being 3 miles long. the assent to the lake would require the tallest locks in the world on the North side, with 10 large locks each raising ships over 30 feet up each time, far more than what was usual. On the south side the locks could be made to a more standard design, raising ships by a more normal 15 feet each time. It was also decided to have 2 lanes for each canal section. On the north side, these would be running the same direction for each pair, so that one pair would be entrance to the canal, and the other for those leaving the canal. On the south side ships would travel on the left most canal lane in whatever direction they were travelling. Provisions for extra capacity in the future were also taken into consideration, and thus space was left in plans for extra canal lanes if found to be necessary.

Orders were made to construct adequate housing, water supplies and other amenities for the thousands of workers arriving to help build the project. Steam Shovels, and loggers were brought in from around the world to start clearing the route. Similarly pyrotechnic experts were brought from Sheen to help once areas had been cleared to blast out the rough form of the canal. One thousand fellers were brought over from Sadalen and paid 21F 5s each to clear the forests so that the heavy machinery could get to work building a naval base and the canal route. This took 90 days to complete, allowing the Steam shovels to get to work.
Paying Sadaler Fellers has cost the project a total of 21250 F, bringing the total amount of project costs accounted for to 5,059,178 F.

Ground has been broken! Steam shovels are used whenever possible and in places where the bedrock is too hard, dynamite is used to blast through the rock. In the first few months, progress is made at a swift rate, however there are some slowdowns with the northern canals due to the natural hostility of the region. As more slaves arrive, the main base of operations is further expanded and workers start getting moved to start building the planned naval base; the work there is at first minimal. Chief Project Surveyor, Robert Marston, discovers that there is an issue with the route, which the southern canal project is taking. They have accidentally started veering too far to the east and therefore now have to correct course, costing them four days of grueling work. Overall though, they have completed one mile of the route, to half of its final depth and on pace to complete the Southern Canal Project on time. The Northern Canal Project is likely to take much longer, due to the aforementioned rough nature of the area.

Work is continuing on time, with the southern canal section being slowly cleared and the new base well under construction. Northern Canal work however has ground to a halt, with the ground being harder than expected wearing out the Shovels 28% faster and taking up to 5 times as long to break through. Even worse, Dynamite is running low, as the last shipment was delayed due to the earthquake in Sadalen, leading to an 8 month delay.

The Queen visits a cell holding a group of ilhaco prisoners, the group responsible for the capture of the eminence. This crack team was offered a deal, in return for their services she would grant them riches and titles.
The mission Sabotage the sheen canal project in every way possible including assassinating architects and builders, destroying machinery and anything else that would support the dams construction.

Progress has continued slowly, but without any hitches. There are beliefs that the Naval base will be complete by the end of the year, the Southern Canal in 1203 and open in late 1204. Northern Canal progress is at a snails pace however progress is being made, and the full length has been dug to some level, while 3 quarters is complete of each lane. Steam Shovels are back to work and blasting has been able to recommence, though the total cost has risen to 5,142,602 F, with an expected final cost of nearly 9 million Firjenons.

Progress continues to come along for the canal's building, however the installation of the Canal doors has been delayed till 1197, but progress is continuing. The Naval Base is being constructed at a reasonable rate too, and should be accessible by the navy by 1198.

The Canal has been completed, and flooding of the canal sections has begun. The first ships to pass through will be SNS Yerkes and SNS Nautilus, followed by the other ships attached to the naval base, and later the canal will be opened to comercial traffic.
