The Kaskader Consitiutional Republic
Motto: Liberty or Death
Anthem: The Frontiersman's Ballad
Government System: Republic
Leader of the State: Charles W. Fairbairn
Leader of Government: Thomas Lewis
Leading power: Kaskadien Senate
Capital: Sykes Bay
Largest City: Fort Clements
Population: 11.36 Million
GDP: 256 Billion (in USD)
Armed Forces:
Navy:
It is a small fleet, but it is starting to modernize by utilizing the iron ore found on the mainland, and nickel found in the islands.
It comprises 19 armored (steel-hulled) ships and 7 unarmored (wooden-hulled) ships.
Army:
Kaskader Gunsmiths and Engineers are now developing a replacement to the old .45-70 Sharps rifles the army has been using for roughly 30 years, as they seek a higher volume of fire instead of range, as many leaders expect ambush warfare to be crucial in any future conflict, therefore making such ranges a secondary concern for faster follow-up shots. .357 Magnum Carbines are beginning to see distribution to active-duty units, and an experimental self-loading system is being tested in some specialist units.
The uniforms are nutria brown, as they hope to hide in the brush while setting ambushes or closing near an objective for a raid. Commonly identified with wide brim "lemon squeezer" campaign hats.
The army is currently standing at 114,457 men on active duty units, with most of the population armed and ready as reservists post-conscription.
History:
The Kaskader Union was formerly a colony of the Imperium Divinium and seceded under Regent Constantine IV. Constantine was planning on secession for years, and the colony was mostly autonomous, operating independent security forces over both land and sea.
There was a short War on the Frontier, which saw guerilla tactics used effectively to overthrow the regent and install a more democratic regime.
Geography
The islands are mountainous, with the smallest rumored to have an active volcano beneath it.
The mainland has a mostly temperate rainforest near the rocky coasts, divided from a mostly shrubland north by the Kaskader range.
Economy
The Kaskadien economy is built around the fertile lands in the south, and the factories constructed in the northern brush. Tobacco, hemp, cotton, and cattle alongside the products produced from these are staples of the economy.
The North has large amounts of coke coal, iron ore, and nickel deposits, which lead to vast steel production. This combined with walnut, maple, and oak from the islands leads to their massive stockpiles of small arms and equipment for their land forces.
These small arms are sold to both civilian and government markets domestically and globally.
Government
The Governor-General (presently Charles W. Fairbairn) is in charge of the executive branch and is the single most powerful office in the Kaskadien Government
He is assisted by a Lieutenant Governor (presently Thomas Lewis) who presides over the Senate. The Lt. Governor takes the Governor-General’s office in the event of his passing and appoints his replacement.
Charles Wallace Fairbairn
Fairbairn was a former officer in the Kaskadien Gendarmerie, in charge of a garrison near his hometown of High Rock. when news of the Regent declaring martial law reached the Garrison, he instead chose to defect, and raid other garrisons.
His actions during the conflict made him a war hero, and eventually the first Governor-General
