Duke Clement had gathered some of the most prominent members of each ducal family, with him and his brother Sebastian representing Alycia, Duke Alfred and his cousin Lord Walter, as well as Walter's brother Charles were representing Eylsia, with Duchess Audrina and her two eldest daughters and eldest son, Iris, Ingrid, and William respectively, representing Maren. The topic of discussion was the communists and their desire for, in Clement's eyes, world dominance, as well as what to do with their new lands.
"It seems that our near 5 decades of peace may be coming to an end, and if we don't act now, so will our Confederacy. I think the time is now to discuss the future of Grand Maren, and new policy. I propose we increase military spending as a failsafe for when the communists decide to strike, if we don't strike first." Duke Clement started out, elbows resting on his desk and fingers locked together in front of his face.
"I have lived through one war, albeit when I was very young. Are you sure you want to go to war?" Duchess Audrina said. She was 62 years old by now, and had remembered all but the first two years of the war that ended up causing the formation of the Confederacy.
"In my opinion, it must be done. Alycia almost requires capitalism to live, how could we ever go communist?" Sebastian said. Most of Alycia was unsuitable for farming, so it ended up becoming a technological and manufacturing center instead. Communism might have terrible effects on them that they were not willing to gamble on.
"Well, what would we even spend that money on? Equipping the men in the field with newer guns won't do the trick, as that can drag out battles. We need new machines in order to establish our dominance over the communists, but what will suffice? How will we even acquire the money to fund such projects?" Lady Ingrid spoke up.
"We did just get that port land across the Aylscor Strait. Perhaps we could build a bridge across it and run tolls? It's a very busy strait, so we'd most likely be able to pay off the cost of the bridge as well as fund our new military projects very quickly, and we could even alter toll amounts based upon relation to the ship's home country." Lord Charles responded. Even suggesting building the bridge would be an insane project on its own, due to the length.
"The distance between Eylsia and the new port is 50 nautical miles! Such a project would require spending hundreds of millions, if not billions of kroner. We'd have to tap into the reserves to fund such a project, and even then, we're going to need a load of materials." William exclaimed.
"The simplest solution is to increase mining operations in Eylsia. Which leads me to my next point. Culturally, there are 5 major regions in Grand Maren. Alycia, Eylsia, Maren, as well as the mountain regions in southern Eylsia and the southern coastal regions and farming areas in Maren. I propose that, in order to help maximize budget, we add two sub-duchies in those aforementioned areas." Duke Clement said.
"I actually like this idea. I wouldn't be opposed to making south Maren a sub duchy. Lady Ingrid could be in charge of it, if there is no opposition." Duchess Audrina suggested. Lady Ingrid herself had no qualms with this idea.
"I am of a similar mindset to the Duchess. The port, which I propose we name Port Audrina, can be under administration of Walter, although it will be a part of Eylsia proper. Charles can be in charge of the new sub duchy, to which I suggest we name Deremn, after one of the most prominent mountains in the region." Duke Alfred responded.
"I can accept those responsibilities and that name, but what would you name your sub duchy, Lady Ingrid?" Charles responded. Lady Ingrid thought for a second.
"Kreas, after the legendary soldier that came from that area that fought in the Famine War." Ingrid responded. Kreas had passed away a few years ago, but he still had family in that region. His grandson was already showing to being a promising commander in the military academy.
"And what about those military projects? Do you have any ideas what to do for that?" Lady Iris asked.
"I would leave you in charge of that. We already have good power in the waves, now we just need to reign in the sky and land. Best of luck to you, Lady Iris. Additionally, I do believe one last thing is in order to be tackled today. Our Confederacy's name. This is more of a menial thing, but I'd like to address it anyways. I would like to propose to change it from Grand Maren to Aylscor. It's slightly shorter and quicker to spell, and, in, my opinion, sounds better. It also removes the implication that Maren is the leading Duchy, which, as a Confederacy, wouldn't be preferred. Any objections?" Duke Clement asked.
"I actually would prefer this, in all honesty, and your reasoning makes sense. I never really liked the name of Grand Maren, anyways." Duchess Audrina responded. It would be unanimous that this name change would occur, and with that, the dawn of Aylscor was here, and it was preparing for war.
